The 'h' Sound

How to make this sound:

Video Text:

The hh sound.  Luckily, it's very easy.  To make this sound, you simply pass air through your vocal cords, hh, while keeping the mouth totally relaxed.*  The jaw drops a bit.  The tongue rests on the bottom of the mouth and lightly touches the back of the front teeth.  Hh.  Happen, have, home.  Sample sentence:  Perhaps he hasn't heard her happy story.

*NOTE:  This is true when you are making the sound alone.  When you are saying a word, the mouth assumes the position of the vowel that comes next, as you can see in the video.

International Phonetic Alphabet symbol:  []
